Mary Sues?
I love them. Step down.
Is this really all the fanfiction you've written?
Oh, hell no. This is just all the stuff I'm not too embarrassed to keep up online. A few years ago I took down all my unfinished WIPs, most of my drabbles, and a couple stories that upon six or seven years of distance turned out to be frighteningly racist. With the exception of the latter, the original HTML files are still up on lovesetfire.com, and I have no problem linking you to them on request. (Hell, your old links might still work.) I also have a few snippets that aren't complete enough to go up here, but are over at my LiveJournal.
How come everything you write is so short?
Lies. Most things I finish are short. You haven't seen the number of novellas & novels I've stalled out on between 10,000 and 15,000 words. I suspect the reason for this is that I don't have much of an attention span.
How come you usually write in smaller fandoms?
Because I like being a big fish in a little pond. I'm not proud.
What other names do you go by online?
I pretty much just go by Ang Griffen (or Angela Griffen) these days. The surname is pseudonymous. I've also gone by the names Maira, Honorata, and Topia/Utopia Nolan.
Were you on/involved with _________?
I participated on Chris Seidel's chats in 1995-6. I was a member of the Malkavian Mailing List and chatted at #malkavians from 1996-7. I was active on the Babygoth Mailing list from 1998-9. This website was a member of the swansongs.net collective from 1999-2000, and then a member of the cerulia.net collective until 2003. I did website reviews around 2000-1. I was involved with the early days of RareSlash-X and FictionRecords. I started #dcu during the 2004 election season, and started the JBBS fic exchange that holiday season. From 2002-2006 I did a lot of journal-based RPGs on LiveJournal and GreatestJournal. I occasionally comment on Let's Go Tribe and the Girl-Wonder.org forums. If you think you know me, you probably do.
Did you write something in Fandom X?
Probably.
Who's your favorite character in Fandom X?
Usually the telepath. Barring that, the sassy blonde teenage girl who secretly kicks ass, the parody of machismo, or the Best Boy In The World. This often results in every member of a superhero team being my favorite character, as you might expect. My favorite character in the DCU is either Saturn Girl or Every Member of the JSA.
Superman or Batman?
I like Superman more as, like, a person, but Batman has a better supporting cast. We'll go with Superman, though.
What is your day job?
Retail wage slave/substitute teacher.
Have you published?
Some poetry under my real name. And a couple non-fiction pieces in children's magazines in my youth.
Tell me more about you:
I'm a white chick from rural Ohio, although I have a lot of family from the south, and I went to school in New England and New York at various points in my life, which has given me a very silly sounding accent and a tendency to use "wicked" and "y'all" in the same sentence. I'm a culturally Catholic practicing atheist. I took some time in there where I was a Hellenic Reconstructionist, but that really didn't work out so well. I'm a radical feminist and a socialist. I aim to be an anti-racist white ally, but I screw up a lot. I suffer from fibromyalgia. Also, I cuss a lot.
And you live in Indiana?
NOT ANYMORE!
Who are your favorite published authors?
Matthew Arnold, E.E. Cummings, John Keats, W.P. Kinsella, Carson McCullers, Sylvia Plath, and Scott Westerfeld.
Do you really have a degree in film?
I have my BA in English literature, but my focus was film/pop culture studies. I also put two and a half years toward a BA in Classical Studies. So I basically have a degree in comic books and Aristophanes. Which, all things considered, at least means I had a lot of fun for my undergrad years.
